Nancy Truett , LPC

Nancy Truett is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with 23 years of experience in counseling, clinical mental health, and substance abuse treatment. As a seasoned clinician and a leader in higher education, she brings a practical, trauma-informed perspective to work with individuals and families across a wide range of settings. Her role as Director of Counseling Services at a community college complements a long history of work in agency settings, private practice, K-12 schools, and residential treatment programs.

She earned a master’s degree from the University of Tennessee in Educational Psychology with a focus on Community and Mental Health Counseling and holds a BA in Literature and Creative Writing from the University of North Carolina. She is also a doctoral candidate at the University of Tennessee in Educational Psychology and Research, Adult Learning Program. Ms. Truett often incorporates arts-based methods into counseling, drawing on her creative writing background to support expression and healing. She is a trauma-informed clinician certified in EMDR and has advanced certifications in grief, loss, and trauma as well as cultural studies in education that emphasize diversity and marginalized populations.

Ms. Truett’s clinical and research specialties center on women, abuse, and trauma, with particular attention to psychological and emotional abuse. Her clinical experience spans adolescent and adult populations, including work with alternative school students, adolescent male sex offenders in residential settings, and adults receiving residential treatment for substance use. She draws on a range of evidence-informed approaches to address stress, anxiety, addictions, relationship and intimacy issues, trauma, depression, LGBT concerns, parenting, career challenges, ADHD, and related areas of life change and recovery.
